Meet Dr. Dianne:
Owner of Dianne's Consultant Services
Dr. Dianne DeMille, a retired educator, now serves as a Supervisor for Mathematics Teacher Candidates at California State University, Fullerton.
Since retiring, Dianne has been asked to author various books. She has co-authored In The Furtherance of Justice, 3rd Edition of Path of the Devil, about the adventures of a DEA Agent and two Private investigators. She has also assisted in writing other true stories by Larry Ray Hardin, a retired DEA agent.
Most recently, she co-authored a true story with the mother of a boy who grew up with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. About one out of every 5,000 boys has Duchenne, and about 20,000 babies worldwide are born with it each year. Duchenne mostly affects boys and reaches across all races and cultures. Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) estimates that there are about 15,000 young men, as well as a few young women, living with Duchenne today in the United States. The Life of Riley Living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Through a Mother's Eyes by Dr. Dianne DeMille and Nina Stuart Herrera, is now available.
Dianne has over 40 years of experience in mathematics education, including teaching, county administration, and graduate-level professor. During the first 20 years of her career, she taught almost every math course offered in middle and high school, including AP Calculus. She found that many students feel incompetent and anxious about learning math. Students who were the lowest and highest performing commented about their insecurities, even those in honors and AP courses. We have all heard stories from parents and colleagues about their school experiences and math learning.
For the next 19 years, while serving as coordinator at the Orange County Department of Education, Dr. Dianne dedicated herself to coordinating district and site mathematics instruction to meet the needs of all learners, with a particular emphasis on increasing achievement for English Language Learners, Hispanic Students who are not English Learners, and Economically Disadvantaged Students. Her work as the state coordinator for the Golden State Exams in three areas of Mathematics, as Co-PI for an NSF-MSP Phase I & II grant, and as an expert panelist for the National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future report presented on June 24, 2011, at the US Congressional Briefing, all reflect her unwavering commitment to serving underprivileged communities. Her recognition as the National Association of Professional Women, Professional Woman of the Year, and Innovative Educator further underscores her Inspiring Dedication.
Dianne has been a member of NCTM, NCSM, ASCD, ACSA, CMC, OCMC, and Phi PDK for many years. She has done several presentations including national and local conferences at NCTM, NCSM, ASCD, CMC, and OCMC. Dianne served to secure Major Speakers with the California Mathematics Council, Southern Section (CMC), an affiliate of NCTM.
